At the time of calamities like Tsunami in Tanjore district, students raised substantial funds and other material aids like cloth, commodities and shelter for victims.

         Some of the lecturers are given additional charges of organizing various extension services under NCC, NSS, Youth Red Cross, Parent Teacher Association, Alumini Association, Free IAS coaching class, Rotaract club, In service training, Campus Diversity Initiative programme.
       
        The NCC and NSS volunteers have planted a large number of Neem, Banyan and Asoka trees in and around the college campus. Various extension and awarness programmes are being regularly conducted by the college against AIDS.

       Some staff members have received state level awards for their social service. Environmental Education programme under part IV is conducted for the first year students.

        A research initiative club ( RESIC) is functioning in the college to encourage research among staff.

        * Blood Donation camps are organized once in six months.

        * An Awareness seminar and a rally have been conducted to create an awareness about the risks involved in the chicken kunya fever.

        * An Aids awareness programme are conducted periodical. A CD has been released by the Leo clubs pertaining to the effects of chicken kunya fever.

        * A Girls NSS unit has been started with the sanctioned strength of 100.

RED RIBBON CLUB

Red Ribbon club was formed during 2005-2006 at Govt. Arts College, Karur.

300 students are the members of the club. The main aim of the RRC in to create awareness among people and students regarding HIV, AIDS.

Another function was to donate blood. Nearly 150 students donated blood in two spells, one in Sep.05 and another in Feb 06.

Prof. P. Chandra former Principal and Prof. G.Elumalai, principal are the motivating force behind the scheme.

Prof. P. Suresh is the coordinator on the programme.

On 18th September '06, at 1 pm, Brama Kumari Meditation organization had conducted a session for students. Nearly 60 students listened to the importance of meditation. Prof. S. Radhakrishnan, principal 1/C invited the dialogue.

On 29th September '06, the women welfare offices convened the meeting of girl students. The aim of the meeting was to motivate students to go for uniform at least for a day. The co-op tex officials had come to show some models. Principal Prof. G.Elumalai addressed the gathering.

On 28th September '06 , the Leo club and the NSS units of the college arranged a meeting containing to AIDS awareness programme. A handicapped weller Mr. Nellai Thuyavan issued through our college and - a lecture. The meeting as conducted in front of the departments.

On 20th September '06, an essay competition was conducted by the forest Department, Govt., of Tamilnadu.

On 20th September '06, the Department of commerce conducted a communication-training programme. Prof. Elizabeth from Holy Cross College, Trichy was the felicitator.

On 20th September '06, an awareness programme regarding chickangunya was conducted by the Leo club and the NSS unit of our college. Dr. Vijiakumar PHI doctor delivered a lecture.

On 1st October '06:

The NSS units of our college conducted Blood donation camp, the being the Blood importance day. Nearly 50 students contributed blood. Blood was collected and safely transmitted the NSS officers Prof. S. Vijayrajan and Prof. Karthekeyan arranged the camp.

On 25th November 06:

The NSS volunteers of our college along with the Leo club members participated in the cleaning campaign conducted at Karur RAILWAY STATION

All volunteers cleaned the platforms and stressed the importance of keeping the Railway Station clean.

Keep clean campus Programme is to be started in the college campus.

On 30th November '06:

The salient features of fire safety class were conducted by Indane gas Distributors - Parameshwari Agency and Nallan Charavarthy Agency.

Nearly 200 girl students were participated, Prof. G.Elumalai principal presided over the function.

Demonstration was carried out students raised some doubts and doubts were clarified.

18 th December ‘06:

With a view to enhance the image of the Govt. Arts College, Karur it has been decided to implement uniform for students. Girl students are asked to be light green saree while male students are asked to wear white dress (White pant and white shirt). Nearly 70% of girl students have come in uniform. The scheme is implemented from 18 th December ‘06.

On 18th December .06, a rally was organized by the Assistant Director, Health service Karur.

The NSS volunteers of our college participated in the rally.

On 20th December 06:

The department of commerce and management conducted special seminar, the topic being 150.

Thiru. V. Velmurugan, DTM Deputy Director, Textile committee, Karur and Thiru M. Saravanan, B.Tech, Quality Assurance officer karur were the chief guests.

Prof. G. Elimalai presided over the function. Dr. V. Palanishamy, HOD if commerce welcomed the gathering.

Seminar from part of Higher Education programme. The venue is R.No: 14, the time being between 2 pm and 4 pm. Nearly 100 students and ten lectures participated in the programme.

DEPARTMENT OF ENGLISH:

On 21st December 06, Accent Club was inaugurated by Dr. K. Mohan., MBBS. He lit Kuthuvilakku.

Prof. G. Elumalai, presided over the function. He spoke in detail about role of English. Dr. N. Ramamoorthy, HOD of English stressed the importance of dfdfdfd communication skills.

Prof. G. Haonionus explained the salient features of the club. Nearly 100 students have enrolled their names.

On 2nd march, 07, a symposium on R.K.Narayan an English novelist was conducted at National College, Trichirappalli. 12 PG students participated in the programmed. Students enacted a skit from RKN’s Story. They participated in the elocution and essay competition.

REMEDIAC COURSE

During the X – mas vacation, a remedical course was conducted at Govt. Higher Secondary School, Thantorimalai by II M.A. students of English literature. Nearlby 110 was benefited. The period was from 24.12.07 to 28.12.07. The valedictory function was conducted on 28.12.07 at 12 noon.

Thiru. Paramanandam, Headmaster presided over the meeting. Thiru Rajendran, Dr. NSS coordinator landed the role played by student – teachers. Dr. N. RAMAMOORTHY HOD of English gave away the prizes. Mr. selyam, II M.A., proposed a vote of thanks.

Mr. Basker, guest lecturer organized the programme. Prof. G. Elumalai, principal has kindly approved the programme.

FRIENDS OF POLICE:

On 11th January our Traffic safety week was celebrated at Govt. Arts College Karur. The programme was sponsored by the NSS units, NCC unit and FOP.

Prof. G. Elumalai , principal presided over the function. Thiru Deepam Sankar spoke in detail about the important of wearing Helmet. Thiru saminathan, D.S.P. of police stressed the need for following Road Rules.

Thiru Sukumar, S.P. of police Karur District motivated students to join uniformed forces. The S.P. stressed the importance of processing driving license. He quipped many questions to students and he was student friendly.

Lion Anbalagan stressed the importance of following Traffic Rules. Mr. Paulraj organized the programme. Mr. Sivashankaran, NCC officer proposed a vote of thanks.
